I Wonder if I Passed the Test?

The sun was out today for the first time in way too long! Deb and I had just returned from playing six holes of golf at the South Fork course when a motorhome pulled in. Deb said goodbye and I went to assist the gal ringing the bell.

She ended up only being 12. Her mom told her to ask me if they could take showers and to tell me that she only has $5 to her name... I said okay, yes they could both shower for that amount. (It's usually $5 a shower. ) As soon as they parked, the RV door opened and a German Shepard and two little boys and the 12 yr old girl emerged and ran amuck. I watched them from the house window and began to assume something was not all okay with this picture.

About 15 minutes had passed when I decided to casually pass by both the kids and the RV. The mom finally emerged and paid me the $5. It was obvious to me by her actions and the sores on her face, that she was a meth user. My heart sank.

Just about then another car pulled in. It was a kid who owed us money for a room. Making small talk, I motioned to the RV and he said he had just seen them in John Day interacting with the police. Now, Mike is gone and I don't consider them a threat but I am not excited that the mom may be in the shower house using drugs and her kids are just running around, yelling at each other, the 12 yr old trying to be the mom, the little one letting the chickens out... and i- yi- yi yi.... it was time to pray!!

I finally just asked myself WWJD? How would He deal with these people? He would love them and be interested in them and not judge them. I ended up having a conversation with the girl and her 6 yr old brother. They are from Henderson, NV, outside Las Vegas and have been living all winter in the RV, mainly near Lake Mead. No school at all this year. We explored the chicken coop and they were very thankful for an 18 pack of fresh eggs. They are headed for the mom's brother's house in Beaverton, OR. I was concerned about the mom as she was in the shower room SO long. Mike finally came home and I explained the situation. He kind of hung out by the shower house and swept and kept busy, and finally they all loaded up and headed west. The little kids waving out the passenger window and thanking us for our hospitality. I wonder how long it will be until I forget this sad little family and forget to lift them in prayer? Today, they touched my heart and I hope and pray they are safe.
